Our Toilet Kept Breaking—Here’s Why We Replaced It

Until last winter, we’d had the same toilet for years, and it kept breaking now and then. It literally turned us into weekend plumbers and made us constantly troubleshoot leaks, weak flushes, and random clogs just to keep it functioning. What should have been a reliable fixture became an ongoing source of frustration and wasted time.

After one too many repairs, we finally decided it was no longer worth patching up. Hiring a local plumber to replace it with an efficient toilet ended up being one of the best decisions we made for convenience, performance, and peace of mind. Today, we’ll share our experience with a toilet that kept breaking and why we replaced the fixture.

Low Water Efficiency

Apart from frequent breakdowns, our outdated toilet was a water-guzzling model that kept our water bills soaring. Unlike modern high-efficiency toilets that use 1.28 or less gallons per flush, our toilet uses anywhere from 3.5 to 7 gallons per flush. Not only did we find this to be unsustainable, but it was also costing us far more in water bills than necessary. Since we had a plumber in Wilson, NC come over and install a new toilet, we’ve noticed a drop in our water usage and low monthly water bills. We’ve also noticed that the new toilet handles waste more effectively without repeated attempts. If you still have an older toilet (pre-1994), we’d recommend you call a professional plumber to help you install a high-efficiency toilet.

The Clogs Were Too Much

Every person in our household was sick and tired of having to plunge the toilet every week. Plunging had become a part of routine, turning what should have been a simple task into constant frustration. It was messy, time-consuming, and honestly embarrassing whenever guests came over. Eventually, we realized the issue wasn’t going away on its own, and it made more sense to replace the toilet with a more reliable, efficient model that could handle daily use without constant clogs. We called a local plumbing repair service that specializes in toilets, and they handled the job in a single visit. Since then, it’s been smooth sailing; no more clogs, no more plunging, just a toilet that works the way it should every time.

Constant Repairs Were Adding Up

What really pushed us toward toilet replacement wasn’t just the inconvenience; it was the cost. Even small plumbing visits add up over time, and repeated service calls to plumbers for the same toilet made little financial sense.

On top of that, we were wasting time and effort dealing with recurring clogs and weak flushes. It felt like we were maintaining a toilet that was already failing instead of calling a nearby plumbing repair service to install something more reliable.

Life After Toilet Replacement

Since upgrading to a newer model, everything has changed for the better. There are no more random clogs, no weak flushes, no unusual noises, and no constant worry about whether the toilet will work properly. It flushes cleanly every time and uses less water.
